The Green-eyed monster
A book in the Håkon Haakonsen-series

Winner of the Silver Knife and nominated for the Riverton Prize!

Psychological thriller – deeply rooted in the local communities of Vestfold. This year’s novel by Myriam H. Bjerkli is a standalone, but the characters will be familiar to those who have read Engelens fall (The Fall of the Angel).

Vibeke and Christian have gotten married. Everything seems fine, but Vibeke begins receiving strange letters where someone warns her and claims that Christian killed his previous wife. Her car is scratched up, and the word "WHORE!!!" is written on it. At the same time, she starts feeling unwell—dizzy and sick. She visits the doctor, who diagnoses her with lead poisoning. Is there really someone trying to kill her? Is the sender of the letter right, and is Christian truly a ruthless murderer?

Myriam Bjerkli has a psychological sharpness and writes nerve-wracking crime stories about the inner and outer events in people's everyday lives.

Bjerkli has written an exciting thriller that explores the closest of relationships and delves into the painful places. Jealousy and the fear of death are underlying themes in this fifth crime novel from the author.

An incredibly gripping page-turner that kept me awake late into the night. Bjerkli writes with ease, she has control over the craft, and the pages fly by—I just have to read more, read more, and before I know it, it’s way too late... Incredibly thrilling!

Fiction and reality are blended in an excellent way, with a narrative voice that is both relatable and unique. She maintains momentum and suspense without having to overdo it with blood and violence. With this book, she solidifies her position as one of Norway's best crime writers.

A highly readable book with great language that makes you fly through the pages. There’s a tension that grows more and more as you read, and my emotions jumped and jolted. I got so hooked that I ended up reading late into the night just to find out how it ended. An amazing book.
Rating: six.
