Maria Valeria D’Avino is a literary translator from Norwegian, Danish and Swedish into Italian. She studied Scandinavian Literature in Roma and Copenhagen. After working as a journalist for RAI (RadioTelevisione Italiana), she is a full-time literary translator since 2000. She has translated fiction and non-fiction, plays and shorts stories by modern and contemporary Scandinavian writers such as Knut Hamsun, Henrik Ibsen, Dag Solstad, Gunnar Gunnarsson, Thorkild Hansen, Roy Jacobsen, Johan Harstad, Janne Teller, Agnes Ravatn, Jussi Adler-Olsen, Ole Lund Kirkegaard. Her translations have been published by Iperborea, Marsilio, Feltrinelli, Salani, Mondadori, Rizzoli, Orecchio Acerbo. She has also experience in scouting, reader’s reporting, editing, translation workshops, and is a contributor of the literary supplement of Il Manifesto newspaper, “Alias”, for Scandinavian literature. She lives in Rome.
