Translates from Norwegian into English

I am an author and translator of Norwegian and Danish living in Port Townsend, Washington, I was the co-publisher of Seal Press and director of its imprint, Women in Translation. I also published two translations by Cora Sandel and a novel by Ebba Haslund.

Recent titles include The Palace of the Snow Queen: Winter Travels in Lapland and Sápmi and From Lapland to Sápmi: Collecting and Returning Sámi Craft and Culture , both from the University of Minnesota Press (2023), and a novel by Norwegian writer Helene Uri, Clearing Out (2018), which won the American-Scandinavian Foundation prize for translation in 2016. I have also received a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts in translation.

I have previously translated a collection of Sámi folktales By the Fire (2019), as well as a travel narrative by Danish author Emilie Demant Hatt, With the Lapps in the High Mountains (2013). I am currently working on a large collection of Sami folktales (2025).
