Beate Heide
The Name Song

Do you have a song that someone in your family has written for you? Children in Greenland are often given a little song that is sung for them as an extra name, just as Sámi children are given a joik. Now you'll hear the story of a polar bear child who has a name song.

The mother polar bear and her child are on their way to the sea. They are going to hunt for seals, but are accidentally separated from each other. The polar bear child calls desperately for his mother, but hears no answers. He is all alone in the snow and ice. He doesn't know his own name, only the song his mother always sings for him.

The song has a QR code for downloading.

Purchased by Arts Council Norway.
