Kristin Lie Garrubo

Translates from Norwegian into Brazilian Portuguese

Kristin Lie Garrubo left her native Norway and a job as a lecturer at the University of Oslo in 1998 to embark on a new chapter in Brazil. Her passion for books and languages led her to pursue the dream of practicing the art of the impossible, otherwise known as literary translation. This journey in the landscape of fairy-tails, novels, delightful children’s books and non-fiction has taken her to the texts of Norwegian authors like Maja Lunde, Per Petterson, Vigdis Hjorth, Dag Solstad, Kristin Roskifte, and Åsne Seierstad, as well as those of Swedish, Danish and Brazilian writers. It has also resulted in a Brazilian IBBY Award and recognition by the school library programme. To let readers have access to ideas, realities, and images that only a translation can give them is what keeps her going in the pursuit of somehow making the art of the impossible possible.
