The story takes place in the Lofoten archipelago in the 1500s. A boy named Juoksa lives by the sea, under the steep mountains of Lofoten. One day as winter approaches, he finds a bear's den. Juoksa is very excited about what will happen.
The book is about a little-known aspect of older Sámi culture: the bear hunt and the celebration afterwards. Through Juoksa's experiences we gain insight into the connection between the activities of the hunting god, the significance of the alder tree, and the great power of the shamanic drum.
The book features five QR-codes presenting joiks, Sámi songs, composed and performed by Ánde Somby.
