This novel consists of three stories of immigration to, and emigration from, Iceland. From the Viking Age through the World War II, the story arrives the present and a young woman, Isobel, who moves to Iceland. There she meets the pilot Már. At the intersection between nature and civilization, they seek a sustainable life together. This book is also a story about Iceland, about how people in the past and present have been attracted to the island and settled there, and how Icelandic nature and landscape have become a closely integrated part of their lives.
